Molecular Soil Health Science

Nature built
healthy soil.
We decoded it.

SoilSecrets Bio® applies 30+ years of molecular soil science across agriculture, mine reclamation, desertification reversal, soil decontamination, desalinization, and turf. Regenerative agriculture is one part of what we do — healthy soil is all of it.

Context

Why Our Work Matters

The soil beneath our feet has been losing its biological intelligence for decades. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, over 90% of Earth's topsoil could be degraded by 2050 — and between a third and 75% is already gone today. With it goes our capacity to grow food, filter water, and sustain a stable climate. Nutrient density in our food — nutrient levels have fallen sharply since the 1950s. Aquifers are being drawn down faster than rainfall replenishes them. Supply chains that feed the world depend on a shrinking base of productive land. Healthy soil sequesters carbon, holds water, and produces food dense enough to nourish rather than merely fill. Every major challenge of our time — food security, climate resilience, water scarcity, public health — has a root in the ground. Soil health is not one issue among many. It is the issue beneath all others.

What we are
Molecular soil health science.
We restore what soil has lost at its foundation.
How we think

The most common problems growers face are soil problems.

Declining yields despite unchanged inputs. Water that runs off instead of penetrating. Roots that won't go deep. Salt that won't flush. Inputs that cost more and deliver less. These are not isolated failures. They are different expressions of the same underlying condition: soil whose chemistry is broken and has lost its biological intelligence.

When the microbial community collapses, nutrients stop converting into plant-available form. When the TerraPro degrades, soil loses the structure that holds water and resists compaction. When a soil's capacity to hold nutrients drops — its ability to bind and release the minerals plants need — salts accumulate and roots struggle to function. Each symptom points to a different mechanism but the same foundation.

A penetrometer tells you the soil is compacted. A nitrogen efficiency number tells you inputs are being lost. What they don't tell you is why — or where to begin.

That is where we begin. Not with a new input. With the soil itself.

About Us
30+ years of
bio-geo-chemical science

Michael Martin Meléndrez founded SoilSecrets Bio in 1983 with a single conviction: soil science was the missing link between human health and agriculture. While other companies were selling inputs, Michael was studying the molecular behavior of carbon in native soil — how geology becomes biology, and how biology becomes food.

The result is a product system that doesn't add chemistry to soil — it restores the chemistry soil already knows how to use. Biomimicry at the molecular level.

🌱
People
Nutrient-dense food starts with healthy soil. We exist to close the gap between degraded farmland and the food quality humans need.
🌍
Planet
Carbon sequestration, dramatically reduced irrigation demand, soil remediation, and reduced synthetic chemical dependency are not aspirations — they are measurable outcomes of every protocol we sell.
📈
Profit
Healthier soil means lower input costs, better yields, reduced irrigation needs, and greater drought resilience. The economics of regenerative agriculture, reclamation, and healthy soil chemistry work — when the science is right.

The SoilSecrets Bio System
Prebiotics.
Probiotics.
Postbiotics.
The same framework that defines a healthy human gut applies to healthy soil. First you fix the environment. Then you introduce the biology. Then you feed it. Skip a step and the system underperforms. Follow the sequence and the soil heals itself.

Fix the Geology — Change the Chemistry

Compaction, salinity, and poor pH are geological problems that prevent roots and microbes from functioning. Our Prebiotic products deliver a bioidentical TerraPro — a molecularly precise carbon compound that mirrors what naturally fertile soil contains — correcting soil chemistry, increasing porosity, and creating the conditions biology needs. Fix the geology first. The biology will follow.

Introduce the Biology

Mycorrhizal fungi extend the plant's root zone far beyond what roots alone can reach, delivering water and minerals through hyphae networks. Beneficial bacteria (PGPR) break down locked soil minerals into forms the plant can actually absorb and use. Our Probiotic products re-establish these populations where tillage, fumigants, and synthetic chemistry have depleted them.

Feed the Biology

Soil biology needs food to function, just like any living system — and every harvest removes organic matter that once fed it. Our Postbiotic products replenish protein, fat, and carbohydrates to the microbial food web, sustaining the biological processes that convert sunlight and soil minerals into nutrient-dense food.

Pistachio Orchard · Le Grand, California
300→<50
Soil compaction (psi) in just 6 months
At 300 psi, a penetrometer could only penetrate ½ inch into the soil — roots had nowhere to go. Within six months on the SoilSecrets Bio protocol, compaction dropped to below 50 psi and the same penetrometer reached 3 feet.
  • Penetrometer depth: ½ inch → 3 feet
  • Tree and soil temperature reduced by 5–10°F
  • Nitrogen application reduced by one third
  • Yield increased by 500 lbs per acre

8.5→20.7
CEC increase — nutrient holding capacity
Over five years in Arizona desert conditions, SoilSecrets Bio protocols sequestered over 203,000 lbs of carbon per acre — carbon that holds ten times its weight in water, dramatically reducing irrigation demand. Soil pH dropped from strongly alkaline (8.6) to near-neutral (7.4), and cation exchange capacity — the soil's ability to hold and supply plant nutrients — more than doubled from 8.5 to 20.7. This is chemistry correcting geology, biology completing the transformation.
Pecan Orchard · New Mexico
30 yr
Yields from 10-year-old trees
Ten-year-old pecan trees treated with the SoilSecrets Bio protocol produced nut weights consistent with 30-year-old trees under conventional management. Higher nut weight, earlier in the tree's productive life.
Vineyard · Baja California
+59%
Grape tonnage · 50%+ less irrigation water
Grape tonnage increased by over 59% while irrigation water was reduced by more than 50% in the same growing period — a simultaneous yield gain and input reduction in a single season. Brix values — the measure of sugar content and fruit quality — increased by up to 14%, reflecting the deeper nutrient availability that healthy soil biology delivers.
